A pip is the unit for price moves. For most pairs it is 0.0001; for JPY pairs such as USD/JPY it is 0.01.

lots
Your entries stay on this device only and will be here next time. You can use . or , for decimals. If a number has separators, we show how it was read below the field.

Example: enter this, get this

  1. Account currency: USD, pair: EUR/USD, contract size: 100,000 units
  2. Buy, entry price: 1.0850, exit price: 1.0885
  3. Lot size: 0.1 (= 10,000 units)

The move is (1.0885 − 1.0850) ÷ 0.0001 = +35 pips. The P&L is 35 × 0.0001 × 100,000 × 0.1 = +$35. It is a profit because you bought and the price rose. Spread, commission and swap are not included, so your real result will differ a little.

The example numbers only show how the calculation works. They are not recommendations. Replace them with your own account’s numbers, or use “Clear inputs”.

Where do I find these numbers?

Entry and exit prices
The Price columns in the Account History tab of the MT4 Terminal, or the History tab of the MT5 Toolbox
Open positions
The Trade tab shows the current price and the open P&L (Profit column)
Contract size
Right-click the pair in Market Watch → Specification → “Contract size”

The mobile app and platforms other than MT4/MT5 may use different names or places (for example, “Units” or “Lot size” for contract size). If you cannot find a number, check your broker’s help pages.

How it works

  1. Move in pips = (exit − entry) ÷ pip size. For a sell, the sign flips.
  2. P&L = pips × pip size × contract size × lots (converted to your account currency)
  3. For gold, a $1 price move counts as 1.

FAQ

Why is it a little different from MT4/MT5?
