Convert your MT4/MT5 trade history to a Tiltnote CSV

Turn a trade history you saved from MT4/MT5 (an HTML report), or history rows you copied and pasted, into the format of “Bulk-register trades in CSV format” in the Tiltnote trading journal app. One row is one trade.

New to this?

You getA CSV you can paste into Tiltnote’s bulk import (date, time, symbol, side, lots, P&L), split into parts of 500 rows, each with a copy button

What to enter, and the terms used

You enterAn MT5 report (HTML), an MT4 detailed report (HTML), or history rows you copied and pasted. Whether to add swap and commission, and whether to remove the symbol suffix

New to these words?

1. Choose or paste your history → 2. It converts automatically → 3. Copy → 4. Paste into the app’s settings

Your file and pasted text are converted inside this page only. Nothing is sent anywhere or saved.

MT5: in the History tab of the Toolbox, right-click and choose the view (Positions or Deals). Right-click again, choose Report, and save as HTML.
MT4: in the Account History tab of the Terminal, right-click and choose “Save as Detailed Report” (or “Save as Report”). Names differ by broker and version.
Menu names can differ slightly by version and language. Excel (.xlsx) files can’t be read, so save as HTML again.
Select the rows in your MT4/MT5 history, copy them and paste here. A header row is fine, with or without it. In MT5, show the history as Positions before you copy.
Compared by the date in your broker’s time. The end date is included, and you can fill in just one. If the EA records your trades automatically, choose up to the day before you set up the EA, so the same trades are not imported twice.
If you’re not sure, the default is fine. The app’s bulk import has no swap or commission column. Adding them makes the total closer to the profit on your broker’s record.
If you’re not sure, the default is fine. Removing it puts “USDJPY.m” and “USDJPY” under one symbol. You can also group them later with “Merge symbol names (grouping)” in the app’s settings (a paid-plan feature). “Keep as it is” also keeps upper and lower case as in the report.
Only the two choices (swap and commission, symbol suffix) are remembered on this device. Your pasted history and file are never remembered.

How to use it

  1. On the left, choose the HTML report you saved from MT5 or MT4, or paste history rows you copied. It reads the Positions table of an MT5 report (or the Deals table if there is none), the closed transactions of an MT4 report, and rows copied as they are.
  2. If you want, choose whether to add swap and commission, and whether to remove the symbol suffix. Below the result you see how many rows were left out or could not be read, and why.
  3. Press “Copy”, paste it into “Bulk-register trades in CSV format” under Settings → Data in Tiltnote, and press “Run bulk import”. If there are more than 500 rows, import the parts one at a time, from the top.
  4. After importing, compare the number of trades and the P&L in the app with your original history.

How this conversion works

FAQ

How do I import it into the app?

In the Tiltnote app (a trading journal) go to Settings → Data, paste into “Bulk-register trades in CSV format” and press “Run bulk import”. The app takes up to 500 rows at a time.

Can I use an Excel (.xlsx) file?

No, it can’t be read. In MT5, right-click your history, choose Report and save as HTML. In MT4, use “Save as Detailed Report”.

Are the strategy, rule and mood columns filled in?

No, they are left empty. The app’s import lets you leave those three out. After importing, you can add them to each trade in the app.

What happens to a trade that was partly closed?

In MT4, each close is a separate row (with its own ticket), so each becomes one row. In MT5, depending on how the table is shown, a position may be one row. Compare the number of rows and the total P&L with your original history.

What if I import the same history twice?

The trades are added twice. The app’s import has no way to spot duplicates. Be careful also if the period overlaps with trades the EA already recorded automatically.

Are my file and pasted text uploaded?

No. The conversion runs only inside this page and nothing is saved. It is separate from the page-view count the whole site keeps, and that never includes the contents of your file or pasted text.

Tiltnote is a journal app where you log, for each trade, whether you kept your rules and how you felt. You can add those to the trades you import with this page. See the app →
