Prop firm drawdown calculator
See how far your current equity is from the floor (the lowest level your equity may reach), using both your daily loss limit and your maximum drawdown. Firms measure these differently, so pick the type that matches your firm’s rules. The article explains the types.

You getHow far your current equity is from the floor you would reach first
What to enter, and the terms used
You enterYour firm’s rules (starting balance, daily limit, max drawdown and its type) and today’s numbers (current equity, today’s opening balance and so on)
New to these words?
Example: enter this, get this
- Starting balance: 10,000, daily limit: 5% (type 1: counted from today’s opening balance), max drawdown: 10% (static). All examples; they vary by firm and plan
- Balance at the start of today: 10,400
- Current equity: 10,200
Today’s floor is 10,400 − 10,000 × 5% = 9,900. The account floor is 10,000 − 10,000 × 10% = 9,000. The higher one (reached first) is today’s floor, so 10,200 − 9,900 = $300 of room left. Firms count this differently, so your firm’s dashboard comes first.
The example numbers only show how the calculation works. They are not recommendations. Replace them with your own account’s numbers, or use “Clear inputs”.Where do I find these numbers?
- Current equity
- Your firm’s dashboard, or “Equity” in the Trade tab of the MT4 Terminal or MT5 Toolbox
- Balance at the start of today
- Often shown on your firm’s dashboard. If not, it is your balance at the daily reset time in your firm’s rules
- Limits and types
- Your firm’s rules page (rules or FAQ)
The mobile app and platforms other than MT4/MT5 may use different names or places (for example, “Units” or “Lot size” for contract size). If you cannot find a number, check your broker’s help pages.
How it works
- Daily limit: floor = reference − allowance. For type 1 the reference is today’s opening balance; for types 2 and 3 it is the higher of today’s opening balance and opening equity. The allowance is a % of the starting balance (or a money amount); for type 3 it is a % of the reference.
- Max drawdown: static floor = starting balance − allowance. Trailing floor = highest value − allowance (for the type where the allowance is a % of the high, highest value × %). For the type that stops, the floor never rises above the starting balance.
- Room left above the nearest floor = current equity − the higher of the two floors (the one you reach first).
FAQ
If I stay within this number, am I safe from failing?
Not necessarily. Details of your firm’s rules, commissions, swap or overnight fees (on FX accounts), slippage and the timing of their calculation can change the result. Always trust your firm’s dashboard over this tool.
I don’t know which type my firm uses.
Look on your firm’s rules page for words such as Daily loss limit, Max loss, Trailing and End of day. When you pick a type, an example of how rules describe it appears below the field. The article “How prop firm loss limits are measured” explains the types.
Log what you did on the days you came close to the limit.
Tiltnote is a trading journal you can use for free with manual logging, to record how you felt and whether you kept your rules on each trade. It does not read your firm’s dashboard, so check your limits there.

This tool is a calculation aid. It is not investment advice or a recommendation to make any trade. The result is an estimate from the numbers and types you entered; your firm’s rules and dashboard come first. The numbers you enter are calculated on your device and never sent anywhere.
