Prop firm consistency rule calculator
A prop firm consistency rule stops a single day from making up too much of your total profit. From your daily P&L, this tool finds your best day’s share and the total profit you need to meet the rule.
New to this?
You getWhat share of your total profit (or profit target) your best day is, and how much more profit the rule needs
What to enter, and the terms used
You enterDaily P&L (one day per line, oldest first), the consistency rule %, and what to compare against. Optionally a starting balance and profit target
New to these words?
Example: enter this, get this
- Account currency: USD, compare against: total profit
- Consistency rule: 40% (an example; it varies by firm and plan)
- Daily P&L: 120, −50, 300, 80, −30, 60 (6 days)
Total profit is 480. The best day is day 3 at 300, so 300 ÷ 480 = 62.5%, above the 40% limit. The total that brings it down to 40% is 300 ÷ 40% = 750, so $270 more profit is needed by this math (if a new best day comes along, the math changes). Only your firm’s official calculation decides pass or fail.
The example numbers only show how the calculation works. They are not recommendations. Replace them with your own account’s numbers, or use “Clear inputs”.Where do I find these numbers?
- Daily P&L
- Your firm’s dashboard (daily results). You can also add up each day’s P&L from the Account History tab of the MT4 Terminal, or the History tab of the MT5 Toolbox
- Rule % and what it compares with
- Your firm’s rules page (look for “consistency rule”)
The mobile app and platforms other than MT4/MT5 may use different names or places (for example, “Units” or “Lot size” for contract size). If you cannot find a number, check your broker’s help pages.
How it works
- Best day share = best day’s profit ÷ total profit (or the profit target amount)
- Total profit that meets the rule = best day’s profit ÷ rule %. Once your total reaches this, the share is at or below the limit.
- More profit needed = the total that meets the rule − your current total. It assumes the extra comes from other days; a new best day changes the math.
- Consistency rules differ a lot by firm and plan: what they compare with, whether total profit is net of losing days or the sum of profitable days only, whether floating profit counts, when the day resets, whether the target goes up when you exceed the limit, and lot-size consistency. This tool shows the common form as a guide. Only your firm’s official calculation decides pass or fail.
FAQ
What is a consistency rule?
A rule at many prop firms that stops one day from making up a large share of your total profit. With a 40% limit, for example, your best day’s profit must be 40% or less of your total profit. Some firms and plans have no such rule.
Does this tell me if I pass?
No. Firms calculate it differently, so treat it as a guide. Always check your firm’s official rules and dashboard.
What should I do if I am over the limit?
This tool does not make trading decisions. It only shows how much total profit would bring the share down.

This tool is a calculation aid. It is not investment advice or a recommendation to make any trade. Consistency rules are calculated differently by each firm and plan, so check pass or fail against your firm’s official rules and dashboard. Your pasted P&L is calculated on your device and never sent anywhere.
