A pip is the unit for price moves. For most pairs it is 0.0001; for JPY pairs such as USD/JPY it is 0.01.
New to these words?
Example: enter this, get this
- Pair: EUR/USD, direction: upswing (low → high)
- Swing high: 1.0880
- Swing low: 1.0820
The range is 1.0880 − 1.0820 = 0.0060 (60 pips). In an upswing, retracements are measured down from the high. 38.2% is 1.0880 − 0.0060 × 0.382 = about 1.08571, 50% is 1.08500, and 61.8% is about 1.08429. These are ratios of the range; they do not mean price will stop or turn there.
The example numbers only show how the calculation works. They are not recommendations. Replace them with your own account’s numbers, or use “Clear inputs”.Where do I find these numbers?
- Swing high and low
- The highest and lowest points of the swing you want to measure. View → Data Window shows the high and low of each candle
- Price digits
- The price of the pair in Market Watch
The mobile app and platforms other than MT4/MT5 may use different names or places (for example, “Units” or “Lot size” for contract size). If you cannot find a number, check your broker’s help pages.
How it works
- Upswing:
retracement = high − range × ratio
extension = low + range × ratio - Downswing:
retracement = low + range × ratio
extension = high − range × ratio - Range = high − low. The result depends on which high and low you choose.
FAQ
Does this tool make trading decisions?
No. It only calculates where each ratio falls. It does not decide where to buy or sell.
How is this different from the Fibonacci tool on my chart?
Retracements use the same calculation. Which side of the swing extensions are drawn on depends on your charting tool and its settings. This helps when drawing lines is awkward, for example on a phone.

This tool is a calculation aid. It is not investment advice or a recommendation to make any trade. Real values depend on your broker’s contract size, rates, commissions and spread. Always check in your trading platform before placing an order. The numbers you enter are calculated on your device and never sent anywhere.
